Uploading Your Files Using WS_FTP

WS-FTP Limited Edition available from:
http://www.ipswitch.com/Support/ws_ftp_le_support.html

What does WS-FTP do?:
WS-FTP
is a file transfer program for computers running Windows. It will allow text, software, and multimedia files to be moved from the hard drive to an RIT account (VAX/VMS, Alpha, UNIX,grace etc.) or an ftp (file transfer protocol) archive that accepts files. Moving files from yourhard drive to the network is called uploading. WS-FTP will also get files from a network account or public ftp archive to your hard drive. Moving files from the network to your hard drive is called downloading. Web browsers, such as Netscape, can be used to download filesbut cannot easily be used to upload files.

Technical requirements:
To work, WS-FTP must be running on a Windows computer connected to a TCP/IP network. This means that your computer is a point or node on the Internet or Internet-connected campus network. It will work on the RIT ethernet and any SLIP or PPP dialup service whereTCP/IP is present. With WS-FTP, files come directly to your hard drive, instead of to an intermediary machine like RITVAX. The advantage of a TCP/IP connection and WS-FTP or Fetch for Macintosh is the one-step process for file transfer: 1) Network directly to Hard drive. FTP on the RITVAX is a 2-step transfer of files: 1) Network to VMS/VAX and 2) VMS/VAX to desktop computer.
