Web Page Promotion Secrets
Simply preparing and submitting your pages doesn't quite get you the visitors you are
wishing for. No matter what you try you can't get your webpage high in the rankings. Time to call in the "secrets" of the trade (as they may be). Here are 10 little-known webpage promotion secrets, that when used along with the standard practices listed prior, will make remarkable differences in your rankings.
Secret #1
Most people love to hear a secret or have something exposed to them.
Use attention grabbing keywords words like "secret" or "exposed" in your Web site.
Here are some other attention grabbing words.
Insider information!
Revealed!
Unveiled!
Unconcealed!
These words call attention to "letting you in on something".
People love to be let in on something, so offer some information
that does so, and you'll reap a lot of interest and
visitors to your site from these search engines.
Secret #2
Another thing that will help your listing come out ahead of your
competition (even if you have the same exact keywords) is to
begin the "title" of your site with an "A" or a number. Some
search engines will alphabetize (by web page title)
listings when there are multiple listings with equal relevancy.
So a web site titled "Astounding Wines Sales" will
have a better listing position than a Web site titled "Willy's
Wines" when the same keywords are in use on both pages. Try to
figure out a way to name your site starting with a number or the
letter "A" and that will give you a that extra competitive edge
that is hard to recognize by the average website owner.
Secret #3
Search engines are now taking a whole new approach to
relevancy listings.
The things that matter most today are keywords, descriptions and
keyword phrasing. Many web pages use keywords, but most fail to phrase
those keywords. Example: let's say you use these keywords:
ancient, buildings, architecture, Peruvian
This may look fine to you, but it is not good enough.
Nowadays people are using the power of searching by phrase with the search engines.
Assume someone searches for these keywords:
ancient buildings
If the searcher is searching on all the words, the above site
using "antique, automobiles, cars, exotic" as keywords, would be
listed because it does contain all the words. But if the
searcher were to search by phrase, this site most likely would not be listed in the
search results. To get around this,
think about how you wish your page is to be found by a searcher. Think
about how what keywords they would use. Then include these keywords
and keyword phrases in your descriptions and keywords. Example:
ancient buildings architecture Peruvian
Note:
Keyword phrases do not work
with commas unless the search string included them. A lot of sites use commas.
Don't do it unless you include all combinations of keyword phrases.
If a searcher now uses the above keywords this site will have a better chance
of being seen whether the searcher uses all the words, any of the words or
even if they search by phrase.
This same technique should be used when building your description too.
Secret #4
What do you do if you just can't get your keywords down to a reasonable amount (under 25)?
Many search engines will not list the same
site more than once or twice, particularly within the same category.
To get around this constraint
make more than one copy of your page. These copies (known as doorway or
gateway pages) can have the exact same content but have different keywords.
You could use "reptiles.html", "toads.shtml" and so on to name them.
When you submit more than one copy of your pages, you have more than one listing in
the search engines. This results in more people seeing your site, more opportunity to get
hits to your page and more potential sales prospects. Be careful not to use
names like "multimedia1.html", "multimedia2.html", "multimedia3.html"
and so on. The search engines are beginning to consider this spamming.

This technique also works well if you want to appeal to several different audiences
with different sets of keywords.
Secret #5
DON'T submit a listing before your page is up - your listing will
be rejected, and it will take you that much longer to get listed.
DON'T try to list in an inappropriate category - this will also
cause your listing to be rejected. Don't jeopardize your chances of getting a
listing by trying to get it in an inappropriate category.
DON'T have a confusing site name - your site name should briefly
describe your site and what people will find there. If it's confusing no one will
bother clicking on it.
DON'T use clever, made-up words. - no one will know to search
for them.
DON'T use single characters for keywords. - single characters such
as "B" or the number "1" are rejected as "stop" words and have no
relevancy to what you're trying get across to potential customers.
Secret #6

toward possibly using your service too.

Secret #10
Hide additional keywords or keyword phrases in plain view at the bottom of the page but
hidden from human eyes.
By defining the text color the same as the background color,
you can hide the words from your customers but yet they are still visible to the search
engines.
Be careful with this, though. Most search engines are now considering this to be spamming.
We do this here by using the following HTML:
<P><FONT size="-2">That text immediately
