What Are the Right Keywords?
We all know how important it is to use the right keywords for our Web sites.
The proper use of your keywords in the keyword meta tags, description meta tags,
title tag, ALT text, and the HTML body copy
will effect the rank of your pages in the major search engines.
But how do we determine the right keywords?
First of all, you cannot really anticipate exactly what keyword or keyword phrase
a search engine user will use in order to find your web site.
Here's a way that you can gain access to such information.
Visit the search engine known as GoTo and follow the following procedure:
- Proceed to
GoTo.com Search Term Suggestions .
- Type in your query (example: "antiques" or "memorabilia" or "collectables").
- Click on the circular button entitled
Find It
Following this procedure for GoTo during the month of September 1998, you would have found the following information on searches done in August 1998:
- "antiques": antiques (1946), antiques price guides (313), antiques roadshow (50), etc.
- "memorabilia": football memorabilia (137), disney memorabilia (89), nasa memorabilia (89), etc.
- "collectables": collectables (356), avon collectables (50), nascar racing collectables (44), etc.
From such a listing,
you can obtain a listing for any keyword or keyword phrase from the most popular
to the least popular on GoTo's search engine during the previous month
(with the raw count in parentheses).
