How to Submit Your Pages

There are basically three ways to get your Web site listed and indexed in the search engines:

1. Wait for the search engines to find you by following a link from another site.

2. Go to each search engine and submit your pages using their Submit URL option. You can do this by going to our 7400+ free site listings and work your way through the extensive list of sites. This could take you weeks to do.

3. Use one of the various page submission services such as Superior Software Solutions. They'll submit to hundreds of engines and directories for a fee. This can save you hours of time.

Once you've submitted to the engine, expect to be indexed (found in the search engine listings) anywhere from 24 hours to 6-8 weeks. It varies by search engine and their current backlog of requests. It's also all common to not get listed at all for no apparent reason. This is why follow up and re-submission is critical. Generally the page where you submit your URL from will have the current waiting period to be indexed. Take note of this time period for each search engine you submit to so you that you'll know when there's a potential problem or resubmission is necessary.

Things to keep in mind when submitting pages:

1. Submit Every Page? Most search engines will not only index your main page but will also seek out your other pages to index through the links from your index page. They'll move down several levels of your site. Therefore, it's not always necessary to submit every page on your site to those search engines. But, if you create pages that link to your home page but not from your home page to them, you'll want to submit those pages too.

2. Make Sure All Pages Are Completed. If a search engine spiders your site and doesn't find your home page or any page that you specify, most will not try again later.Several engines immediately verify that your page(s) exists and will reject any submission of pages not found. Therefore you should make certain your site is complete and all pages present before submitting to the search engines.

3. Spamming. Some search engines are now watching for submissions of too many pages at once. Some search engines limit how many pages can be submitted per day or week. They are also looking for submissions of too many similar pages and are known to ban sites that they feel are abusing the system. Therefore, its always best to proceed with caution and submit only as many variations of a page as absolutely necessary to achieve your goal. If you keep it to one main page and one optimized summary page for each product/service then you should not have any problems. Also, you should time your submissions across many days.

4. Yahoo. Yahoo, unlike search engines, is a directory that only adds your site after a human being has reviewed it and decided it was good enough to be in their directory. Make sure you've done an excellent job in providing good content for your site before submitting to Yahoo. These directories also take more follow up to get listed since indexing is done by human beings who can make mistakes or can be encouraged to change their mind on a later review.

Because of their extensive categorizing of sites, Superior Software Solutions leaves the submission of sites to Yahoo to the website developer.
